I suppose that this would be a good game to bring up for your project, guys. Perhaps one of the most interesting games to come about in recent history that changes the face of Real World vs. Virtual World interactions is a game called SecondLife. This is an amazing expansive multiplayer world interface created by Linden Reasearch Labs. This game is an ongoing project that is completely powered by the users. Every single area and item in the game was at one point, modeled, scripted, and textured by a person not developing the game. This allows for some... "interesting" creations. The most relevant thing to this project is the fact that real world money and SecondLife currency, which is known as Lindens, have a connection supported by the developers themselves. Using an officially supported and affiliated service known as LindeX, players can actually track the strength of their Lindens before they convert them to real USD. In other words, it is officially supported that you can earn these Lindens in game then go to LindeX and offer to sell your Lindens for a certain amount, which another player will eventually buy with real money. Here are some screens of the various pages on my account. This information is valid as of 3:20AM, Oct. 31, 2005.
